MTG Marvel set has more legendary cards than any other MTG set ever - here's the solid (and refreshingly rational) reason why

75% of all creature cards in Magic: The Gathering x Marvel Super Heroes are Legendary creatures

Over the past couple of weeks, Magic: The Gathering x Marvel Super Heroes gave players the chance to assemble their own heroes (or villains). And as you've been creating your own Marvel decks, you may or may not have noticed that there are a lot of Legendary creatures in Marvel Super Heroes. According to a breakdown by Cardboard By Numbers, 75% of the creatures in Marvel Super Heroes are Legendary. That's a 5-point difference from Marvel's Spider-Man (70%) and March of the Machine: The Aftermath (66%).

So why is that? Well, the answer is rather simple. On his Tumblr blog, Magic: The Gathering's head of game design, Mark Rosewater, answered a question about Legendary creatures and closed out his answer with, "Universes Beyond sets often have a lot of legendary creatures because most properties have a lot of named characters, and in Magic named characters are legendary."

So there you have it, folks. The set is called "Marvel Super Heroes" after all, so that necessitates a lot of named characters. And having this many Legendary creatures running around injects a bit of fun chaos into the set, considering how you can equip any Legendary red/white hero character with Mjölnir, Hammer of Thor. That includes Agent Phil Coulson.

Anyways, Magic: The Gathering x Marvel Super Heroes is available now.
