Sword of the Sea release date: When the game sets sail on Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 5

Sword of the Sea is a gorgeous and surreal game that lets you surf where no one has surfed before

What's the best way to bring a world back from the brink of destruction? If you said "a combination snowboard, skateboard and hoverboard," then you'll want to mark the release date for Sword of the Sea on Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 5. The upcoming game features unique gameplay and surreal landscapes that are sure to make this one of the most memorable games you've ever played. So when can you expect Sword of the Sea's arrival this summer?

The Sword of the Sea release date is August 19 on Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 5. The game was developed by Giant Squid and directed by Matt Navia, who previously served as the art director for Journey, another game that featured a desert setting. Gameplay is heavily influenced by extreme sports like surfing, snowboarding and scuba diving. While there are a plethora of games coming out this summer, Sword of the Sea is nevertheless sure to stand out. Here's the trailer for the game:

In Sword of the Sea, players will take control of a wraith who journeys to a desolate planet. While riding atop a "hoversword," the wraith explores and revitalizes the planet. Collecting "ocean seeds" will allow the player to bring water back to the landscape. In turn, the return of water and marine life opens up new exploratory opportunities for the wraith. The game has no dialogue, and instead relies upon music and visuals to move the story along. The soundtrack was composed by Austin Wintory, a frequent collaborator with Navia.
Sword of the Sea will be released on August 19 on Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 5.
