The landscape of DC movies and TV shows has completely changed in the past few years, ever since James Gunn and Peter Safran announced that they would lead a new company called DC Studios. And while James Gunn's initial video announcing the first slate of DC Universe projects in 2023 came at a time when it looked like Gal Gadot would continue to play Wonder Woman in the future, things have now changed. 

In an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Horowitz asked Gadot if "there was a specific moment" where she "had to let go of" playing Wonder Woman because she knew "definitively" from DC Studios that she would not be playing Diana in the future. 

"No, they told me the opposite," Gadot said about DC Studios. "They were like, 'We're gonna develop with you, the third [film], la, la la.'"

Gadot went on to express her frustrations with how DCEU stalwarts like Henry Cavill and Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins were left out of DC Studios' plans. "The Henry [Cavill] situation was not handled elegantly, to say the least. Same with Patty [Jenkins], was not handled elegantly," the actress said.

Even so, Gadot understands that situations like these come with the territory in Hollywood. "I feel like we're all adults, it's all good, it's not even about them," referring to the studio. "They are there, and they're there to do what they believe in, and that's good. But I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to wear these boots and to have the character be so celebrated, and be the vessel at that point of time. And I can only wish for whoever is going to be [Wonder Woman] to come pure to this journey because as much as it's like, we're talking about movies and superheroes, and blah blah blah, but this character really means so much to so many of us."

"It was never mine. I was just a vessel," Gadot concluded about the role of Wonder Woman. "This is Hollywood."
