Resident Evil (2026) release date: When the video game adaptation reboot will arrive in theaters

The much-anticipated reboot of the franchise comes from Barbarian and Weapons director Zach Cregger

This autumn, you're invited to revisit one of the most disturbing stories of all time: Resident Evil. The upcoming remake aims to capture the atmosphere of the video games that kicked off the long-running franchise. So, when will the release date for Resident Evil (2026) come knocking at the door of your local theater?

The Resident Evil (2026) release date is September 18th, 2026 in theaters. The new incarnation of the story will be directed by Weapons and Barbarian director Zach Cregger, from a screenplay he co-wrote with Shay Hatten. It has been almost half a decade since the most recent movie in the franchise, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City was released in 2021. Of course, there are a lot of exciting movie release dates for you to keep in mind in the months to come. Currently, an official trailer for Resident Evil (2026) is not yet available.

Resident Evil will be the eighth movie in the franchise, but it represents a new beginning for the big-screen incarnation of the story. The movie stars Austin Abrams as medical courier Bryan, Zach Cherry as Dave, Paul Walter Hauser as Carl, Kali Reis as Pauline and Johnno Wilson as Max. This incarnation of the story is inspired by some of the earlier video games in the series, including 1998's Resident Evil 2, 1999's Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and 2005's Resident Evil 4. And if that's not enough to pique your interest, Cregger has also cited Evil Dead 2 as an inspiration.

The release date for Resident Evil (2026) in theaters is September 18th, 2026.
