How to watch the Resident Evil movies, TV shows, and anime in order
From the Milla Jovovich movies, to the CGI animated movies and TV show, to the Welcome to Raccoon City reboot and Netflix show, here's how to watch Resident Evil

So, you wanna take a trip to Raccoon City, eh? You're in luck, because there's no shortage of Resident Evil media beyond the iconic Capcom games. That said, unless you're a true Resident Evil completionist, you might not want to watch every "adaptation" of Resi. I put "adaptation" in quotes because, well, some of these adaptations have very little in common with the actual Resident Evil games.
Without much further ado, let me give you a breakdown of the various Resident Evil adaptations. Of course, if you're looking for a guide about playing the Resident Evil games in order, we've got one ready for you!
How to watch the live-action Resident Evil movies in order

Okay, so there are three different groups of live-action Resident Evil movies: the Milla Jovovich movies directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, the Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City movie, and Zach Cregger's upcoming Resident Evil movie. The Milla Jovovich movies are, in my opinion, only Resident Evil movies in name. While there is a smattering of characters from the games in those movies, they have very little bearing on the plot. In contrast, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City was a concerted effort to feature more characters from the Capcom games in a story that would feel recognizable to fans of the video games.
Here are the Milla Jovovich movies:
- Resident Evil (2002)
- Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)
- Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)
- Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)
- Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)
- Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2017)
And now, the one reboot film:
The Welcome to Raccoon City film is unrelated to the Milla Jovovich Resident Evil movies.
How to watch the Resident Evil animated movies and TV shows in order

If you're looking to watch Resident Evil movies and TV shows that feature characters from the games, look no further than the animated movies. They are set within the same timeline as the Resident Evil games, and feature characters like Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and Rebecca Chambers. It's worth noting that the Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness animated show is a sequel to Resident Evil: Degeneration, hence why it's put before the other movies on this list.
- Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008)
- Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness (2021)
- Resident Evil: Damnation (2012)
- Resident Evil: Vendetta (2017)
- Resident Evil: Death Island (2023)
But wait, what's up with the live-action Netflix Resident Evil show?

Yeah, so the live-action Resident Evil show produced by Netflix also exists. Starring Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker, Netflix's Resident Evil series features some elements of the original games - like the Umbrella Corporation and references to other characters like Ada Wong - but as showrunner Andrew Dabb told Tudum, “The overriding goal [of the show] was to create the feeling of being in a Resident Evil game without necessarily just doing a one-to-one adaptation of a Resident Evil game.” That is, Netflix's live-action Resident Evil show isn't related to the video game timeline in any way. The show was also canceled after one season.
- Resident Evil season 1 (2022)
Are all the Resident Evil movies connected?

Quick answer: depends! The Milla Jovovich movies are all connected, and the animated movies are connected with the video game timeline.
