How Rachel Bilson and Wilson Bethel’s chemistry with Rachel Bilson changed the Hart of Dixie finale
Hart of Dixie was originally going to end up with Zoe ending up with George, but plans changed when the producers saw the chemistry between Wilson Bethel and Rachel Bilson

The heart wants what the heart wants. And sometimes the heart wants what the audience wants.
If you watch the CW drama Hart of Dixie, you might notice how the early seasons seemed to push the will they, won’t they tension between Zoe and George. Zoe’s chemistry with Wade was always a part of the series, but he seemed like a character that was there as a roadblock to the inevitable pairing between George and Zoe.
However, if you watched the series until the end, you know that not only did Zoe and Wade get together, but they got married and had a baby. This wasn’t a part of the original plan, but the producers noticed the chemistry between Wade (Wilson Bethel) and Zoe (Rachel Bilson) and how the audience was responding to it.
“I will say as a testament to Wilson, originally it was supposed to be George. It was definitely not supposed to be Wade,” Rachel Bilson says during a Hart of Dixie reunion panel at Florida Supercon.
Bethel joked that he was always a Zoe/Wade shipper. “I want my guy to be with the main girl. Come on,” Bethel says. “Wilson was so great, and we had so much fun working together, it would just naturally happen,” Bilson adds.
Hart of Dixie is streaming on Pluto TV.
