WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer exits Marvel, signs new deal with Amazon MGM

Jac Schaeffer created one of the best Marvel television series for Disney+ in WandaVision, but her time in the MCU seems to be at an end

Marvel Studios’ television division was dealt a serious blow this week as one of its key creators has jumped ship. Jac Schaeffer, who created both WandaVision and Agatha All Along, has signed a three-year deal with Amazon MGM Studios, signing that she is leaving Disney and Marvel behind for new opportunities – at least in the immediate term.

Fans who hoped we would be getting an Agatha All Along Season 2 are likely to be disappointed by the news. Jac Shaeffer has reportedly signed a three-year deal with Amazon MGM Studios to develop, write, executive produce, and direct original series for Prime Video. Previously, Schaeffer was under a deal at Marvel Studios and 20th Television, but that deal has apparently run its course, and Schaeffer is moving on to work on unspecified projects for Prime Video instead.

Jac Schaeffer is best known for creating and showrunning WandaVision in 2021, which was both a continuation of the Scarlet Witch’s story in the MCU and a love letter to American sitcoms through the decades. This was followed up by 2024’s Agatha All Along, which did away with the sitcom trappings and followed Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness. Notably, Schaeffer has not been involved in the upcoming VisionQuest series, despite it being a continuation of the stories she set up in WandaVision and featuring the return of Paul Bettany as the MCU’s Vision.

The new deal with Amazon MGM Studios seems to preclude Schaeffer from working on future MCU projects for the next three years, but does not specify what new projects she will be developing for the studio.
