NCIS: Origins season 2 release date: Gibbs returns again when the prequel's sophomore season hits CBS

Season 2 of the spinoff procedural series NCIS: Origins is coming your way this fall.

NCIS may have originally spun out of JAG, but it went on to develop a whole franchise of its own. The NCIS franchise now includes the spinoffs NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawaii, NCIS: Sydney and NCIS: Origins. While the first three of these spinoffs have since been cancelled, you can still expect new episodes of NCIS: Sydney and NCIS: Origins in your future. So when can you mark your calendar for the release date of the NCIS: Origins season 2 premiere's arrival on CBS?

The NCIS: Origins season 2 premiere is October 14 at 9:00 PM ET on CBS. The rest of the episodes in NCIS: Origins season 2 will continue to be released on a weekly basis after that. In fact, the entire CBS Tuesday night programming block will be appointment viewing for NCIS fans. That's because NCIS: Origins will be the meat in a sandwich that features the NCIS flagship show in the hour before it airs, and NCIS: Sydney in the hour afterwards. But naturally, that's only one of the many exciting show release dates you'll want to plan on watching this fall. Currently, there isn't a trailer available for NCIS: Origins season 2.

As the name suggests, NCIS: Origins is a prequel to the flagship NCIS series. Set in the early 90s, a decade before the outset of the original NCIS series, NCIS: Origins explore how Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) became the agent we all know. The actor who originated the role of Gibbs on NCIS, Mark Harmon, reprises the role as the narrator for the series. Also appearing on the show are Special Agent Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid), Special Agent Cecilia "Lala" Dominguez (Mariel Molino), Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo Hayes (Tyla Abercrumbie), Special Agent Vera Strickland (Diany Rodriguez) and Special Agent Bernard "Randy" Randolf (Caleb Foote).

Season 2 of NCIS: Origins will debut on October 14 at 9:00 PM ET on CBS.
