Regular Show's Rigby says that the new series won't ruin the original Cartoon Network finale... in theory

Throughout its seven-year run, Cartoon Network’s Regular Show was a show that became beloved by a fanbase who came to recognize Mordecai, Rigby, Muscle Man, Skips, Pops and the rest of its cast as true illuminated, illustrated philosophers. Turns out, that wasn’t the end of the story — and those responsible for its continuation are very aware how worried those same fans might be about tarnishing the original show’s legacy.

“There is a [revival of the series] that is planned,” Janie Haddad Tompkins told the Seattle crowd at Emerald City Comic Con 2026, during the Regular Show: Behind the Madness panel. “The internet knows about it, there just hasn’t been a formal announcement of premiere date yet, but I know it’s coming soon.”

The show — which will be titled Regular Show: The Lost Tapes — was officially announced back in 2024 with a projected 2026 launch, although nothing more specific in terms of timing has been released.

Rigby himself, William Salyers, was more coy about the whole subject, initially pretending that he didn’t know anything about it. “You guys got asked to be in the new series,” he joked to his castmates. He did admit to one concern he had with the concept — in theory, that is.

Theoretically, something that fans have said to me, and it echoed my own concern before I knew anything about it,” Salyers teased. “I mostly didn’t want to ruin what I thought was one of the best endings of a series that I had anything to do with or not. I thought the actors ended it on a brilliant note. That was my first thought, that I hope they don’t undo that. And… theoretically, they do not.”
