The Amazing Digital Circus kept breaking Discord in its early days thanks to Alex Rochon's Caine voice

The Amazing Digital Circus cast did their early table reads on Discord, and the platform wasn’t always kind to Alex Rochon

When the convention ends, the adventure continues at Broward Center and The Parker, sponsor of this article.

The Amazing Digital Circus is so successful that it’s easy to forget its indie roots. The adult animated web series has over 1 billion views on YouTube along, it’s spent weeks in Netflix’s global top ten charts, and it made over $36 million during its limited theatrical run.

Not bad for a show that started as a YouTube video from an independent creator. In fact, you might be surprised to learn that the voice actors used Discord during their earliest recordings. Looking back, the cast have fond (if not embarrassing) memories of their Discord experiences.

“I think [my favorite line] is, ‘You look convoluted,’ for episode six, because the first time I recorded that, I screamed that during the table read, and nobody heard it because Discord cut it off,” Caine voice actor Alex Rochon says during a panel at Florida Supercon.

“You guys have to understand, in the early days of recording this show, when we started doing table reads, Discord hates how powerful Alex’s voice is,” Ragatha actress Amanda Hufford adds. “Every time Alex would do what we knew was a hilarious performance, because you could tell by his face, it would be just silence, and we’re all staring at him like, oh buddy, I bet that sounded awesome.”

“He would put his heart and soul in it,” Jax actor Michael Kovach adds with amusement.

The next time you watch the early episodes of The Amazing Digital Circus, whenever Caine says a line, picture Alex screaming his lungs out in a Discord call.
