The Boys cast wonders if the show is ending too soon, amidst a modern era where "there's so much material to keep going with" in the real world

At Emerald City Comic Con 2026, Laz Alonso from The Boys reflected on how the show has been a "mirror" for society's ills

When The Boys premiered on Prime Video in 2019, it was a cutting satire on the power of corporate America through superheroes. And in 2026, with the upcoming final season of the show dropping later this year, it seems like there's never been a more important time for The Boys to continue. But alas, all good things must end.

At Emerald City Comic Con 2026, a fan asked The Boys stars Karl Urban (Billy Butcher) and Laz Alonso (Mother's Milk) if they ever felt like the show went too far, or if they felt like the show never went far enough in tackling the myriad of social issues that it discusses.

Alonso responded, "It's a question we still talk about to this day, because there's a dance when you're storytelling, you wanna hold the mirror up - especially the type of show that we are - you wanna hold up the mirror to society and say, 'Hey guys, are we going too far? Are we going too far?,' as a community."

"But at the same time, you don't want to become preachy or heavy-handed. Karl and I were at dinner last night, and we had the same conversation. It's wild that we're ending during a time when there's so much material to keep going with... to continue to remind society of where we are and where we don't wanna end up," Alonso said.

Alonso's thoughtful response was met with applause from the audience. And even though I'll be sad to see The Boys end later this year, I'm glad that it even existed for five seasons in the first place and spawned spinoffs like Gen V.
