Sophie Turner first look as Lara Croft shows Prime Video embracing Tomb Raider’s video game roots
Sophie Turner's look as Lara Croft has us thinking that Tomb Raider from Prime Video might be the most faithful to the original games we've ever seen.

Times are changing in Hollywood – it used to be that, when you adapted a video game, you tried to make sure no one knew you were adapting a video game. You threw in a couple of Easter eggs to satisfy the nerds, but mostly tried to do your own thing. Things are different now, which is why we’ve gotten our first look at Prime Video’s take on Tomb Raider with Sophie Turner looking every bit like Lara Croft from the games.

The glasses. The hair. The thigh holsters (which any cosplayer will tell you is hard to make look good) feel like they could have been taken from one of the games. Heck, even the pose has all the strength and attitude that has made Lara Croft a video game icon for nearly 30 years. The costume obviously doesn’t tell us much about the plot or anything else going on in the new live-action Tomb Raider series, but someone on the costume team clearly understood the assignment and was dedicated to giving Tomb Raider fans something to look forward to.
This first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft comes with the welcome news that the new live-action Tomb Raider series has gone into production for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. Turner is joined in the cast by Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, and Martin Bobb-Semple.
Lara Croft is having a resurgence of late. In addition to the upcoming live-action series, we’re reportedly getting a new Tomb Raider game and a remake of the original in the next two years. We also got the second and final season of the animated Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft series in December 2025. All in all, it is a good time to be a Tomb Raider fan.
