There are 104 days of summer vacation, and Phineas and Ferb are going to make the most of each one.
Premiering in 2007, the Disney Channel animated show followed Phineas and Ferb, two young brothers with wild imaginations, crazy ideas, and the engineering skills to make them all possible. Each episode features one of their crazy schemes, like building a rollercoaster, assembling their own robots, and even journeying to Mars. Their teenage sister Candace is constantly trying to “bust them,” but evidence of their adventures always seems to disappear before their mom shows up.
Oh, and their pet platypus is a secret agent. And sometimes the show is a musical (and the songs slap).
If you’ve ever wanted to get into Phineas and Ferb, but weren’t sure where to start, Popverse has you covered. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about watching Phineas and Ferb in release and chronological order. Let’s begin…
How to watch Phineas and Ferb in release order

Phineas and Ferb ran for four seasons from 2007 through 2015. A television movie called Across the 2nd Dimension aired during the third season. The series also had a few miscellaneous tie-in shorts, such as Take Two with Phineas and Ferb and Doofenshmirtz's Daily Dirt. You can ignore those, as they are just extra bits of fun that don’t contribute to the overall narrative. However, feel free to watch them if you’re a completist.
After Phineas and Ferb ended, a spinoff pilot called O.W.C.A. Files aired, but it wasn’t picked up as a series. Milo Murphy’s Law is a separate show set in the same universe the features some Phineas and Ferb characters as recurring characters. In 2020, Disney+ released another Phineas and Ferb movie titled Candace Against the Universe before the series returned for a fifth season in 2025.
If you want to watch EVERYTHING, here’s a list of each show and movie in release order…

How to watch Phineas and Ferb in chronological order

I won’t mince words; it’s best not to think too hard about Phineas and Ferb’s chronology. There are a lot of inconsistencies, and trying to decipher the timeline will only give you headaches.
For example, the first four seasons take place over one summer, but most episodes have two segments, which would add up to more than 104 days. To be fair, series co-creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh have said that some episodes take place on the same day, with Phineas and Ferb doing one invention in the morning and going on another adventure in the afternoon.
Some episodes occur on specific days, such as ‘Candace Loses Her Head,’ which takes place on July 11, and ‘Dude, We're Getting the Band Back Together,’ which is set on June 15. This has created some timeline issues, since the show has jumped around the summer calendar, and had callbacks to events that shouldn’t have happened yet. A few YouTube videos have gone into great detail on these discrepancies.
At the end of the day, it’s a cartoon, so it’s best not to worry about the timeline stuff. Just sit back and have fun. Besides, a few episodes have involved time travel, so you could always blame that for any continuity issues.
With that in mind, you can still build a timeline for Phineas and Ferb. Here’s how it works….
The First Summer
- All episodes of Phineas and Ferb season 1-4, unless otherwise noted
- Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension
- Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe
Throughout the school year
- Milo Murphy’s Law season 1-2
Fall
- O.W.C.A. Files
- Phineas and Ferb season 3 episode 14 ‘That’s the Spirit’
- Phineas and Ferb season 4 episode 19 ‘Druselsteinoween’
Winter
- Phineas and Ferb season 2 episode 17 ‘Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation!’
- Phineas and Ferb season 4 episode 2 ‘For Your Ice Only’ and ‘Happy New Year!’
The Second Summer
- Phineas and Ferb season 5-6
10 Years Later
- Phineas and Ferb season 4 episode 26 ‘Act Your Age’
Non-canon
- Take Two with Phineas and Ferb
- Doofenshmirtz's Daily Dirt
Is Phineas and Ferb coming back?

Yes, Phineas and Ferb is back! The show returned for a fifth season on June 5, 2025, with new episodes premiering on Disney+ and the Disney Channel. The new season is set one summer after the first four seasons, beginning with the last day of school. Most of the original voice actors are back, with the exception of Thomas Brodie-Sangster, the original voice of Ferb. David Errigo Jr., who voiced Ferb in Milo Murphy’s Law and Candace Against the Universe, is taking over the role.
A sixth season is currently in production, but a release date hasn’t been announced. In addition, Disney is also producing two tie-in shorts, Cartoonified with Phineas and Ferb and Agent P, Under C. As of this writing, no release date has been announced for either of them.
What happened to Phineas and Candace’s father? Where is Ferb’s mother?

The series has never explicitly stated the whereabouts of Phineas and Candace’s father or Ferb’s mother. The closest the show has ever come to referencing them was ‘Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars,’ where Candace asks what happened to their father. Phineas says, “Funny story, actually,” but the scene ends before we find out what he said.
It’s worth noting that the episode isn’t canon.
Some viewers have theorized that Doofenshmirtz might be Phineas and Candace’s father, since he dated Linda before the kids were born. However, series co-creator Dan Povenmire debunked that theory, saying Linda never saw Doofenshmirtz after their disastrous first (and only) date.
Over the years, Dan Povenmire and Jeff 'Swampy' Marsh have said that the status of the missing parents isn’t important. They wanted to normalize blended families, feeling it was important for young viewers. Phineas and Candace call their stepfather “dad,” while Ferb calls his stepmother “mom,” demonstrating the close bond they all share.
Are there any LGBTQIA+ characters in Phineas and Ferb?

Phineas and Ferb doesn’t contain any explicitly queer characters. However, the show sometimes uses queer coding with Buford and Baljeet’s friendship, portraying them as if they were an old married couple. There have been similar jokes about Doofenshmirtz’s rivalry with Perry the Platypus, particularly in the episode ‘It’s About Time.’ It’s worth noting that Buford, Baljeet, and Doofenshmirtz have all been given female love interests at one point.
Series co-creator Jeff “Swampy” Marsh has said that the show has LGBTQIA+ characters, but he didn’t identify who they were. In April 2021, series co-creator Dan Povenmire said that Perry was asexual. As you can imagine, this hasn’t been addressed in the show itself.
Is Phineas and Ferb in the Marvel Universe?

Kind of!
Phineas and Ferb season four contains an episode titled ‘Mission Marvel’ which finds Phineas and Ferb teaming up with various Marvel heroes. Doofenshmirtz builds a device that takes away the Avengers powers, leaving the heroes helpless. Venom, Red Skull, M.O.D.O.K., and Whiplash team up with Doofenshmirtz (sort of), hoping they could keep the stolen powers for themselves. Hijinks ensue.
The Marvel heroes and villains are done in the same style as the Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble animated shows, however, it’s very clear the crossover isn’t meant to be canon to either series.
However, Marvel is a multiverse, so perhaps this is one of the many realities that splintered from the Sacred Timeline. I’m sure someone from the TVA is a big Phineas and Ferb fan.
Where can I watch Phineas and Ferb?

You don’t need any of Phineas and Ferb’s fancy gadgets or Doofenshmirtz’s inators to watch Phineas and Ferb. If you have a Disney+ subscription, then you’re all set. The complete series can be found on the Disney streaming service, along with the television movies, Milo Murphy’s Law, and Take Two with Phineas and Ferb. The O.W.C.A. Files television pilot is included as part of Phineas and Ferb season four.
The only thing missing is the Doofenshmirtz's Daily Dirt webseries, but various fans have uploaded all the shorts to YouTube, so they aren’t hard to find.
Now you have everything you need to enjoy Phineas and Ferb! As Phineas would say, I know what we’re gonna do today!
