Marvel Studios is heavily involved with the X-Men '97 season 2 prequel over at Marvel Comics, including stuff they couldn't fit in the cartoon

X-Men '97 Season Two comic writer Steve Foxe said Marvel Studios were "were incredibly generous with their time and insight, as well as with all sorts of scenes and character background that didn’t make it into the show"

X-Men '97 is currently in the midst of its second season, continuing the seminal Marvel animated saga that began all the way back in 1992. At the comic shop, too, fans of the X-men's animated adventures are getting even more of that storyline, as Marvel's X-Men '97: Season Two dives into more of the adventures with the mutants we know and love. But here's the really cool thing - the gap between the two mediums is even narrower than you might imagine.

As the writer of the aforementioned book reveals, Marvel Studios worked what didn't fit into the X-Men '97 series into the X-Men '97 comic.

That writer is, as I might not have to tell you, True Believer, Steve Foxe, who recently sat down with AIPT for a wide-ranging discussion about X-Men '97: Season Two Prelude, which "takes place between seasons and into the opening of Season Two’s second episode," as the Superior Avengers writer explained.

"That involved a LOT of cooperation with the Marvel Studios team," said Foxe, "Who were incredibly generous with their time and insight, as well as with all sorts of scenes and character background that didn’t make it into the show. So the series Salva [Salvador Espin, series artist] and I have worked up for you not only helps to bridge the gap between seasons, but will actually end up providing additional context on characters and plot developments you’ll experience all season long."

X-Men '97 is streaming now on Disney+, and you can keep up with the season 2 release schedule here. X-Men '97: Season Two #2 comes to comic shops everywhere July 8.
