Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the best anime series of all time and has spawned movies, remakes, and much more. Its legacy and shadow are huge, and there's nothing like it. You go in expecting a cool sci-fi series about mechs and otherworldly menaces and you end up getting that plus psychological horror and a pretty messed-up drama. If you're in the right mindset for it, NGE is great. Already a fan or looking to convert a friend or relative? You'll be interested in this deal.

Amazon has slashed the price of Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Complete Series on Blu-ray in half, taking it down to $28.99 from its regular $59.98 price. That's a little over $1 for each episode in 1080p. Plus, you're getting a handful of bonus features that run for more than 5 hours. The presentation is solid too, with a nice slipcover rounding out the package. And in case you were wondering: Yes, the entire series comes with Japanese and English audio tracks as well as subtitles.

Without getting into spoilers, the synopsis reads as follows: "In 2015, Tokyo-3 is under attack from "Angels," extraordinary beings that possess various special abilities. Multipurpose Humanoid Decisive Weapon, Evangelion is the only method to counter these Angels, and Shinji Ikari is chosen as its pilot. The battle for the fate of humankind has begun. Exactly what are the Angels? What is destined for the young pilots? And what will become of humanity?" Needless to say, things get weird quick and anyone going in blind somehow will be surprised by Hideaki Anno's timeless masterpiece.
