The fact that Downton Abbey simply refuses to end, with a third film on the way in September, is only further confirmed by the impending return of The Gilded Age. While the HBO series isn’t officially a spin-off of Downton Abbey, it has the same showrunner and there have been plenty of hints that the two shows will crossover at some point. With The Gilded Age season three’s release date coming soon, will this be the year that the two period dramas clash?

We’ve been waiting a few years for the return of The Gilded Age. Season two wrapped up in 2023, but with much of Hollywood slowed down by strikes that year, it isn’t surprising we’ve had a long break from the exploits of New York City’s rich and powerful. Thankfully, The Gilded Age season three returns on June 22, 2025 for an eight-episode season. New episodes drop on Sunday nights, with the last episode of the season coming on August 10, adding to an already busy television lineup this summer.

Is The Gilded Age a Downton Abbey spin-off? Depends on who you ask. The first two seasons don’t have any real crossover with Downton Abbey aside from the period they take place in. However, both shows were created by Julian Fellowes, who has teased that there could be some Downton Abbey characters that make their way to New York City for an episode of The Gilded Age in future seasons.

The Gilded Age season three debuts on June 22, 2025 on HBO. This season will be eight episodes long and end on August 10, 2025.
