Lunar Chronicles' Marissa Meyer loves cosplay - and has certain cosplays she'd love to see at Seattle's ECCC this weekend

I may not be exactly into the thing that you're into, but we are already on a similar ground in that we are fans of something and we love something and we are here to just be excited about whatever that is," Meyer says

Popverse's top stories of the day

New York Times best-selling author Marissa Meyer has one foot in the world of prose and one foot in the world of comic books. She comes from a family of costumers and cosplayers. And she's just come off a whirlwind book tour. From Cinder to Heartless she has invented and reinvented familiar characters and tropes to the delight of readers across the globe. Best of all? Meyer is coming to Emerald City Comic Con in 2024! This year she has signings, panels, and an entire library of books ready to get into the hands of attendees in Seattle.

Popverse’s Ashley V. Robinson spoke with with Meyer to ask what she loves most about the world of conventions - from what is unique about interacting with an audience of prose readers to which of her character she thinks are most deserving of the cosplay treatment! They even get into the nitty-gritty of her writing process and how is shifts from genre to genre as she tackles them all.

“I mean, I love meeting new readers,” Meyer tells Popverse about spending time with fans at conventions, “And I'm just - as of this recording - I just got home from book tour and so I had a whole week of getting to go and meet wonderful readers and have fantastic events. There is a difference sort of energy at a convention centre full of people and cosplayers and people are, you know, buying artwork and they're going to panels and there is such an enormous sense of comeraderie and there's just this idea of, like: I may not be exactly into the thing that you're into, but we are already on a similar ground in that we are fans of something and we love something and we are here to just be excited about whatever that is.”
