Where do we know Sandra Bullock from?

Celebrities are celebrities because we know who they are, but how we know who they are varies from person to person. For some, for example, Leonardo DiCaprio will always be Jack from Titanic, but younger moviegoers might know him better as that dude from Inception with the top.

Chris Arrant - Demolition Man

That woman from Demolition Man. While Sandra Bullock first burst onto the big screen with her role on Speed, for me it was the opening night experience that was Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes’ Demolition Man which clued me in. The movie, which was MTV meets science fiction (replete with Dan Cortez), puts Bullock squarely into being a surrogate viewer while also playing along with the joke – most memorably with singing merchandise jingles as the new music trend, which we’ve now adopted as real life (not sci-fi).

Tiffany Babb - Miss Congeniality/Two Weeks Notice

I'm cheating and choosing two, because these two movies are so intertwined in my brain as some of my earliest good memories of romcoms. Miss Congeniality and Two Weeks Notice are full of surprises, tons of chemistry, and the powerful Sandra Bullock. Both movies are hilarious and sweet, and Bullock shines in both, bringing her A-game to the genre as a different type of romantic heroine.

Trent Cannon - Speed

Speed. It was one of the first action films I remember seeing in the cinema and it just stuck with me. I didn't care how dumb or convoluted the plot was or how impossible the stunts were - I just knew I was having fun, so Sandra Bullock will always be the woman behind the wheel of a speeding bus to me.

Grant DeArmitt - Gravity

I caught the Miss Congeniality movies late (I think I might've seen 2 first?), so when I think of Sandra Bullock, the first image I have of her is floating through space. Alfonso Cuarón's 2013 survival thriller Gravity remains one of my favorite "need to see in theaters" movies, and she's incredible.

Graeme McMillan - Ocean's 8

Where do I know Sandra Bullock from? As much as I want to joke that I first noticed her on Speed 2: This Time It’s On A Boat, I Guess – only joking, its actual title is even better: Speed 2: Cruise Control – I’m pretty sure that I first noticed her in the far superior first movie in that franchise.

These days, though, when I think of ol’ Sandy Bulls, I have to admit my first thought isn’t even an especially good movie: it’s Ocean’s Eight, that rare thing where you watch and feel as if every single actor deserved a better script, some better direction, and a far better soundtrack. Would that I’d go to one of those movies where she’s actually great (Miss Congeniality! Gravity!), but, ohhhh no. Not for me.

Veronica Valencia - Miss Congeniality

Miss Congeniality is such an iconic movie, and also one of my go to Sandra Bullock movies. That and also The Proposal. It’s funny, it’s quirky, and we now know April 25th is the perfect date.
